A: A skived fin heat sink has several outstanding advantages: (1) One-time forming with no need of further assembling or machining. It is a firm structure with no risk of getting loose or falling apart; (2) It keeps 100% of the extruded material’s thermal conductivity with no loss due to the technique; (3)It can realize a cooling structure with ultrathin fins, ultra small gap, and ultrahigh aspect ratio; (4) It is suitable for large-scale batch production with lower costs; (5) It is suitable for larger heat sinks with higher stability and easy to maintain.

A: A friction welded heat sink is formed by welding two similar or dissimilar extruded materials (typically extruded aluminum or aluminum alloys) by the friction welding technique. This technique realizes an ultra wide structure and an ultrahigh density so as to satisfy the high power cooling needs. A friction welded heat sink looks exactly the same as a typical extruded heat sink but with a larger dimension and higher cooling capacity.

A: Friction welded heat sinks are suitable for high power cooling applications in which the required dimensions exceed the dimensional limit of extruded heat sinks. In this case, two extruded heat sinks can be welded together by using the friction welding technique so as to form a large-scale ultra wide heat sink, which we called a friction welded heat sink.
